OUR IGUANAS UP FOR ADOPTION
Current As of 17 December 2010...
PLEASE REMEMBER:
Iguanas are very solitary creatures and generally prefer to be left alone, but can and do participate in human interaction if approached properly. It is important to understand their defensive nature as they are wild animals at heart and are made to defend themselves against perceived threats. For purposes of describing our iguanas' personalities, we do not use the word "tame", for we believe that instinct will override an iguana's logic 100% of the time and the only way to achieve a friendly, social iguana is to work with the animal on a daily basis and condition the animal to be comfortable and approachable.
Adopt Medina
Meet baby Dina, as we call her. She is not a female for certain, but given that her name was Medina when she was surrendered, we have always gone with that. Medina has been here at the shelter for 6 months now but she was never adoptable before because she required intensive rehabilitation to reverse a severe calcium deficiency. As a result of her calcium deficiency, she has developed a bit of a "hunchback", is very small for her age, and has a slight squaring off of her jaw. She has approx 1/3 of regenerated tail as well. Medina is dear to us here because of what we have been through with her and we require that only someone super special can take her home.

Adopt Balthora
Balthora is a beautiful juvenile green iguana. Although she is not quite old enough to determine gender with absolute certainty, she appears to be a female due to small femoral pores and the lack of developed jowels. Balthora came to us when her original owner was tragically killed as a victim in a drunk driving accident. When Balthora first got here, she had absolutely no social skills, but has come so far. She is a good pet and she likes to do her own thing, which mainly consists of basking and eating. She can always be found in the same places and has great potential for being trained and socialized. She tries to intimidate, but she has not bitten anyone here.

Adopt Miss Jacky
Miss Jacky is an adult female green iguana who spent most of her life in an enclosure and has not truly been socialized. She does not like being approached or handled, but she is a low-maintenance pet if you provide her a place to hang out up high with a basking lamp and feed her the foods she loves. She is so cute because whenever she gets hungry, she starts walking around the house and attempting to eat non-food items. She will graze and observe what I am doing, but she will keep her distance. She has very interesting colors and is a beautiful girl. Miss Jacky is very plump and muscular. She would be a great pet for someone with patience or someone who doesn't wish to do a lot of handling of their iguana.

Adopt Twizzle
Twizzle is an adorable female approx 5 years old. She came from Minneapolis where she was abandoned to an animal shelter and spent close to 6 months there in a cage with no human contact other than at feeding and watering time. She tends to be a bit skiddishat times. She has been known to whip and nip at people, but she does just fine when she is approached and handled with confidence. She will thrive if she has an area to call her own and if she can be left to bask and explore as she desires. Anyone interested in taking Twizzle needs to understand and embrace her background and be willing to spend time socializing her if they wish for a social iguana, otherwise, she will tend to be reserved. With regular love and human interaction, she will open up and become a fine companion.
