Mr. Pop A.K.A. Poppy (Iggy Pop)
Name: Mr. Pop, Pop, Poppy, Iggy Pop
Information: Juvenile green iguana, very gentle and loving, loves to take naps with me, favorite foods: collard greens and hibiscus flowers
Hobbies: Likes roaming down low on ground rather than climbing. Pop likes to find dark, secluded corners and go to sleep in mid day, which is precisely why he must be caged. His behaviors are a bit erratic, but he has a heart of gold. Pop wants to fit in with other lizard friends and so he likes to follow them and is often very passive near other iguanas when it comes to feeding and basking..
Age: Approximately 2 to 2 and 1/2 years old
Why Rescued? Rescued from owners who felt they did not have enough time to give Pop the attention he/she deserved. Since Pop has been here at the shelter, he/she has displayed signs of MBD, endured a tail break, torn the ligaments in his knee and lost a finger! Pop has been through so much!
Current Status: Currently in rehabilitation for Secondary Nutrional Hyperparathyroidism, Pop has been receiving treatment for several months, but it appears he is finally close to being cleared. Mr. Pop does not like being in his cage, but it is for his own good and we don't anticipate ever letting him free roam because he hides for extended periods of time, doesn't keep warm and is prone to injury. Pop has doubled in body weight according to the vet when he went last and his tail is growing back quickly and is approx 3/4 regrown! Pop is coming along thank God! -NOT ADOPTABLE; ON "PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS"

Spunky
Name: Spunky Nickname: Spunky Pants or just "Pants"
Information: Adult Full-Grown Male Iguana 5 feet, 15 lbs, gorgeous green and orange breeding colors; excellent muscle tone, entire tail intact; an absolute beauty but does have tendencies to become defensive and has bitten once since being here.
Hobbies: Likes being misted with spray bottle, taking baths, taking a death-defying drop from the top of his cage to the bottom, favorite food: scrambled eggs (which he no longer receives since his surrender to the sanctuary) Mild temperament, enjoys rubdowns and being petted, will approach you and greet you with a bob of his head; has taken a fancy to our female named Iggy. Spunky prefers to be inside of the cage he came to us in, but does have the option to come out at his leisure and will be seen making rounds around the lizard den 2-3 times per week before returning to his cage and perching on his branch again. UPDATE: As of late, Spunky has had a change in behavior in which he will launch himself across the room at me when I walk in the room. He has also been having isolated bouts of aggression, which we believe is primarily controlled by his breeding hormones.
Age: Approximately 11 years old
Why Rescued? Rescued from a loving owner who's educational obligations would have compromised Spunky's quality of life.
Current Status: Arrived to shelter 18 June 09 and we are very pleased to have him! - NOT ADOPTABLE - ON "PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS"

Iggy
Name: Iggy Nicknames: Sassy
Information: Adult Female Green Iguana, offset jaw makes her unique, partially regenerated tail, grew back VERY nicely; came from a very loving owner in Arizona who pulled her through MBD treatment back in 2005-2006. Iggy is a very sassy girl. She likes to exert her dominance and does not hesitate to jump up and try to bite you if you come at her too quickly or unexpectedly. It appears Iggy has trust issues and does not take well to being held or petted. We hope that in time, Iggy becomes more social with people. She has taken a liking to Mr. Spunky up above, and spends her time harassing him and taking over his cage. Excellent guard lizard; could take out a small dog.
Hobbies: Iggy is a very curious little lady and she likes to explore every inch of her surroundings. Iggy likes to climb and perch on top of tall objects, for it makes her feel in control of her surroundings.
Age: Approximately 6 years old, Iggy is a very big, muscular girl
Why Rescued? Iggy's long-time owner took a new job which includes a lot of traveling and wasn't able to spend quality time with her anymore. He saw our website and wanted Iggy to have a life where she could spend more time outdoors in a nice humid subtropical environment and spend time with other lizards.
Current Status: Arrived: 19 June 09 NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Zilly
Name: Zilly NICKNAME: Silly Zilly
Information: Adult Iguana from Plano Texas; Dark Banding indicates that Zilly is most likely a green iguana of South American descent, rather than the traditional Central American lineage in most green iguanas.
Hobbies: Still getting adjusted to new surroundings; Zilly is a sweetheart with a very mild temperament. Zilly loves to relax and take it easy, he enjoys being outside and playing with the other lizards. When Zilly arrived, it was said he hadn't been out of his cage or handled in close to a year, so Zilly is enjoying his newfound freedom and interaction with people and fellow iguanas.
Age: Approximately 9 years old, but looks much smaller, more like a 5 year old iguana most likely due to inadequate exposure to UVB rays
Why Rescued? Zilly's longtime owner joined the Navy. Since Zilly has been here, he has displayed signs of mild secondary nutritional hyperparathyroidism, a condition creating weak and brittle bones due to inadequate exposure to UVB rays and/or poor diet. Zilly recently had an accident in the outdoor cage in which he hurt two of his fingers on his right hand and a toe on his left foot and has since seen a veterinarian.

Twizzle
Name: Twizzle
Information: Female Green Iguana, abandoned to a humane society in Minneapolis and after nearly 6 months of nobody showing interest in adopting her, euthanasia was in her near future. Arrangements were made with Golden Valley Humane Society in Minneapolis/St. Paul to have Twizzle shipped here to Raptor Rescue . Upon arriving here, Twizzle hadn't been handled in months, and probably for the better part of her entire life, therefore she was and still is a bit skiddish with people and will make threatening gestures. Twizzle knows what she wants and appears a tad bit bossy with the other iguanas when it comes to feeding and warding off visitors who attempt to wander into her territory. Twizzle will need an owner who will let her perch on a high surface under a basking lamp and let her come down and walk around if she likes, she would not do well in an enclosed cage.
Hobbies: Twizzle had never been exposed to the outdoors to roam about in a controlled environment, therefore, when we introduced her to the large outdoor terrarium, she became very peaceful and tranquil.
Age: Unknown, approx 5 years old

Medina
Name: Medina Nickname: Dina
Information: Juvenile green iguana from Bossier City
Hobbies: Medina arrived here in a small enclosure with no UV bulb and it was apparent that she had developed moderate to severe calcium deficiency as a result, leaving her with a bit of a "hunchback" and a squaring of the jaw. She underwent intensive rehabilitation to recover healthy calcium levels for over 6 months. Just recently, Medina has been medically cleared to join general population and is now up for adoption. She is a very curious, but well-behaved iguana and will make an outstanding pet. She definitely appears smaller than she should and it is possible she won't grow to be as big as she would had she not developed MBD. Medina is a diamond in the rough and deserves a loving and understanding new owner.
Age: Approximately 2-3 years

Balthora
Name: Balthora; We call her "Balthor" for short
Information: Juvenile green iguana from Lafayette. Balthor came to us under somber conditions. Her original owner was sadly the victim of a drunk-driving accident and left her orphaned. She was brought here completely unsocialized, given that she hadn't been handled much and was weary of humans. Since Balthor got here, she has improved dramatically. She is reserved but responsible, she interacts well with her fellow iguanas. Although she has come a long way, like most iguanas, she does not enjoy being approached or handled but will calm down if she is properly handled. Slow movements and continuous gentle contact will be the key to turning Balthor into a teddy bear, but she is awesome the way she is now!
Hobbies: Balthor likes to feel free, she will do well with a cage where she has the freedom to explore outside of her general living quarters. Balthor likes to bask and loves to be outdoors in our outdoor terrarium.
Age: Approximately 3 years
Why Rescued? Unfortunately, Balthor's owner passed away as a victim of a drunk driving accident, leaving her in need of a new home. Balthor has shown mild signs of malnutrition and needs to be under a strong UVB bulb to prevent a recurrence, but overall, she is in good health and is considered clear of her malnutrition now.
