Our Story

Two brothers, one injured kite, and a mission that changed everything.

Our Journey

From a home in Old Delhi to the world's largest raptor rescue.

Early 1990s

The Beginning

Brothers Nadeem and Saud find an injured Black Kite. Told by hospitals that they "do not treat carnivorous birds," they begin learning to heal raptors themselves.

2003

Wildlife Rescue Established

The brothers formally establish Wildlife Rescue, dedicating their lives to raptor conservation in Delhi.

2010

Official Registration

Wildlife Rescue is registered as a charitable trust. Case #317 marks the start of formal record-keeping. 362 birds rescued in the first year.

2011

Explosive Growth

Intake surges 179% to 1,011 birds as the partner network activates. Wildlife Rescue transforms from a home operation in Old Delhi to a dedicated rescue center.

2013

Move to Wazirabad

Wildlife Rescue relocates from its founding home in Old Delhi to a larger facility in Wazirabad Village, North Delhi — making room for more birds and better infrastructure.

2014

National Recognition

Sparrow Award from Wipro Nature Forever Society. FIAPO Special Award. Included in Limca Book of Records. 1,974 birds rescued.

2020

COVID Resilience

Despite India's strict lockdown, Wildlife Rescue never closes. Annual intake drops only 3%. "Even during a global pandemic, we never closed our doors."

2022

All That Breathes

The Oscar-nominated documentary brings global attention. Intake jumps 24% to 3,500 birds. Wins Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Cannes Golden Eye.

2023

Oscar Nomination

All That Breathes nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 95th Academy Awards, BAFTA, and DGA Awards.

2025

Record Year

4,184 birds rescued — the highest annual total ever. May 2024 set the single-month record with 720 birds. The rescue network grows to 10+ partner organizations.

Mohammad Saud

Mohammad Saud

President & Co-Founder

Mohammad Saud is one of the founders of Wildlife Rescue and has been central to its development from its earliest beginnings. In 2003, when he and Nadeem rescued a young black kite and brought it into their care, Saud began taking on core responsibilities that formed the foundation of the organization's mission and work. Following the formal registration of Wildlife Rescue in 2010, Saud became a Trustee and has since served as the Managing Trustee and President of the organization. In this leadership role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of Wildlife Rescue, with primary responsibility for animal care and the overall management of the rescue clinic, ensuring high standards of welfare, operational efficiency, and impact.

Nadeem Shehzad

Secretary & Co-Founder

Nadeem co-founded Wildlife Rescue with Mohammad Saud in 2003 and has remained closely involved with the organization since its inception. He serves as a Trustee and Secretary, playing a key role in governance, strategic planning, and organizational oversight, and is actively involved in institutional decision-making and management responsibilities. His primary areas of responsibility include administration, public relations, regulatory and government compliance, and fundraising, contributing significantly to the organization's long-term sustainability and effective functioning. Nadeem has also served as an Honorary Wildlife Warden with the Government of NCT of Delhi. In addition, he is a board member of Raptor Rescue and Research Inc., a U.S.-based nonprofit organization registered under section 501(c)(3). Beyond his professional work, Nadeem has a deep and wide-ranging intellectual curiosity. He has a strong interest in astronomy and cosmology, as well as the history of human conflicts and global population trends. He is keenly engaged with philosophy, spirituality, and religious studies, reflecting a thoughtful and introspective outlook. An avid adventurer, he enjoys driving through remote areas and countryside landscapes, as well as swimming and trekking, pursuits that reflect his connection with nature and exploration.

Salik Rehman

Wildlife Rehabilitator

A dedicated member of the Wildlife Rescue team since 2017, Salik plays a vital role in the organization's daily rescue and rehabilitation efforts, contributing to the care and recovery of thousands of birds each year. He oversees key operational activities and carries primary responsibility for animal care, ensuring the effective on-ground execution of rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation work. Salik is prominently featured in the internationally acclaimed documentary All That Breathes, alongside Nadeem and Mohammad Saud, and appears on the official poster of the film. His presence in the documentary highlights his integral role in Wildlife Rescue's work and the organization's broader impact. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hindi from Delhi University. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Salik enjoys swimming, playing cricket, and watching films, reflecting a balanced interest in fitness, sports, and culture.

Mayank Vikas

Advisory Member

Mayank Vikas has been associated with Wildlife Rescue since August 2010, beginning his journey with the organization as a volunteer. Over the years, his role has evolved into a multifaceted contribution encompassing strategic, operational, and hands-on engagement, reflecting his long-standing commitment to wildlife conservation and environmental protection. Mayank has worked closely with Wildlife Rescue on a range of critical functions, including legal and regulatory compliance, fundraising, education, and outreach initiatives. In addition to his institutional and strategic contributions, he has been actively involved in hands-on wildlife care, including the fostering and rehabilitation of injured birds, bringing together academic expertise and practical conservation work. He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Policy and Conservation Ecology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His academic background provides a strong foundation in environmental governance, conservation science, and policy analysis, which he applies to support the organization's mission and long-term impact. Through his sustained involvement, academic rigor, and practical engagement, Mayank continues to contribute meaningfully to Wildlife Rescue's work at the intersection of conservation, education, and institutional development.

Dr. Jai Prakash Pandey

Veterinarian

Dr. Pandey holds a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.VSc. & AH) from Anand Veterinary College, Gujarat, and has been associated with Wildlife Rescue since 2014. Through his clinical expertise, professional oversight, and commitment to animal welfare, Dr. Pandey has played a pivotal role in strengthening the organization's veterinary care standards. Under his guidance, Wildlife Rescue has achieved significant advancements in animal care, medical treatment protocols, and rehabilitation outcomes. His contribution has been instrumental in elevating the quality of medical intervention and ensuring that rescued wildlife receives timely, effective, and compassionate treatment, supporting the organization's mission to provide high-standard veterinary care to birds and other wildlife.

Mohammad Umar

Mohammad Umar

Wildlife Rehabilitator

Umar is a Wildlife Rehabilitator who began his journey with Wildlife Rescue in 2022. From the outset, he developed a strong interest in wildlife rehabilitation and felt a natural connection to the organization's mission and conservation work. He is responsible for animal care, field rescue, and the rehabilitation of injured and distressed birds, contributing actively to both emergency response and ongoing recovery efforts at the facility. His work focuses on ensuring the well-being, treatment, and successful rehabilitation of birds under care. Umar holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Jamia Millia Islamia, bringing organizational awareness and discipline to his hands-on conservation role. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he is an avid fan of WWE wrestling, cricket, and films, reflecting his interest in sports, entertainment, and popular culture.

Sana Khan

Sana Khan

Administration & Animal Care

Sana plays a multifaceted role within the organization, managing accounts, record-keeping, and a range of essential office responsibilities that support smooth administrative operations. Her attention to detail and organizational skills contribute significantly to maintaining accurate records and effective internal processes. In addition to her administrative duties, Sana actively supports animal care efforts, with a particular focus on the care of orphaned and injured baby birds. She assists with feeding, monitoring, and providing appropriate housing tailored to their specific needs, helping ensure their comfort, safety, and recovery during early and vulnerable stages of rehabilitation. Sana is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, complementing her practical experience with academic learning and a broader understanding of governance, systems, and social responsibility. Her ability to balance administrative work, hands-on animal care, and academic commitments reflects her dedication, compassion, and growing professional capacity.

Mohammad Faisal

Field Rescue & Animal Care

Faisal plays a critical frontline role in Wildlife Rescue's field operations. He operates the organization's Raptor Rescue Mobile, traveling across Delhi throughout the day to respond promptly to rescue calls and recover injured or distressed birds. In addition to on-site field rescues, Faisal works closely with team members to coordinate the collection and transport of raptors and wetland birds from partner organizations, ensuring their safe and timely transfer to the Wildlife Rescue facility for treatment and rehabilitation. Beyond rescue and transport, Faisal is actively involved in hands-on animal care at the facility. He assists with the daily care of birds under treatment and supports veterinary and rehabilitation efforts by helping with medication administration and bandage changes. His versatility and dedication make him an essential contributor to both emergency response and ongoing rehabilitation work.

Social Media & Outreach

Mohammad Afeef is a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Vocational) in Marketing Management and Retail Business, bringing an academic foundation that supports his work in communication, outreach, and engagement. At 25 years of age, he represents a new generation of professionals combining strategic thinking with creativity and social awareness. In his role, Afeef is responsible for social media management and public awareness campaigns, where he contributes to building visibility, engagement, and outreach for organizational initiatives. His work focuses on creating meaningful digital presence, supporting awareness efforts, and communicating key messages to diverse audiences in an effective and accessible manner. Afeef has a strong interest in education and continuous learning, believing in the power of informed communication to drive positive change. He is also passionate about fitness, maintaining an active lifestyle that supports discipline, focus, and well-being. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he enjoys watching shows and participating in social gatherings, reflecting his interest in culture, storytelling, and community interaction. Mohammad Afeef brings energy, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to his work, contributing to both organizational goals and broader public engagement.

Samia Shafiq

Samia Shafiq

Conservation Educator

Samia brings over a decade of experience across administration, counselling, and education, and has been working with Wildlife Rescue as an educator since 2026. In her current role, she focuses on conservation education, with a special emphasis on bird protection and environmental awareness. Through Wildlife Rescue's outreach initiatives, Samia conducts interactive educational programs in schools, engaging young students through videos, presentations, quizzes, and hands-on activities. Her approach makes environmental learning accessible, engaging, and meaningful, helping inspire the next generation of wildlife stewards. Driven by a commitment to fitness and a deep love for nature, Samia brings energy, empathy, and purpose to her work, strengthening the organization's mission through education and community engagement. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Delhi University.
